Join BOTSOC KZN Coastal branch on our exciting outings and events programme. This year we have a more ecological slant - plants with birds, bats, butterflies… something for everyone- young and old, beginner or expert !

Unless otherwise stated the following events are free for Botanical Society members and, unless the event is restricted to membersonly, non-members are most welcome and are asked to pay R10/pp. Attendance at any of our functions/outings is at your own risk and neither the Botanical Society nor this Branch can be held responsible for any injury or loss that may occur. You are required to sign an indemnity form for all outings.

Hope for our Wildflowers - CREW successes with threatened plant species of KZN
Suvarna Parbhoo, Co-ordinator of the Custodians of Rare and Endangered Wildflowers (CREW) Programme: KZN node,will describe some inspiring success stories of finding and monitoring plants of conservation concern within KZN, with the invaluable assistance of civil society.Entrance: R25 for members and R35 for non-members includes refreshments. Proceeds to Botanical Education Trust and Durban Botanic Gardens Trust.

Mon 25 June: 18h00 Visitors Centre, Durban Botanic Gardens
Raiders of the Lost Larch
Intrepid, courageous plant collectors over the centuries have sometimes made sacrifices in their pursuit of science. KZN Herbarium scientist, Dr Hugh Glen, co-author of Botanical Exploration of southern Africa ed.2, will tell us about some of the eccentricities and unfortunate fates of this special breed, to whom we nevertheless owe a great deal for our knowledge of plants and their distribution. Entrance fee and bookings: as per 28 May talk.
